A few of important themes of my father which he followed and used to say to us are given below if I remember correctly.
1. Do all work in the
disciplined manner and in time. Every work has got its own time and that has
to be done during
that period.
2. He gave much stress on the
education of his children. He used to say "I can sell everything I have
for the education of my children and medical
treatment even myself if needed but nothing for
anything else.
3. Never be dishonest to your
brothers nor have any feelings like that otherwise in return you will
never get happiness from your son/sons. He
used to give many such examples from his family
and relations.
4 He had been studying the holy
book "GITA" since he was at the age of about 25 or 30 years. He
said " you will earn "punya"
by helping those they are in great distress (applied to very very poor
persons) if you can and in lieu of that you
can pray to God for any good things for yourself or for
others but leave the result on Him.
I remember a
very important incident in this regard when I was about 8 or 9 years old. My
eldest
brother was seriously ill when he was in 3rd
in medical. My father prayed to God that if his son
became alright, he would donate
blankets(100 in nos.) to very very poor persons. Good luck! For
the grace of God he recovered from illness
very soon and became quite well. He purchased 100
blankets as he had promised to God. Do you
know what he did ? He used to get up very early in
the morning although it was a severe winter
and carried 5 to 10 blankets with him while going for
the morning walk (as he used to do in every
season) . He used to put one blanket to the body of
each person whom he found sleeping under
the tree and suffering from incurable diseases (at that
time), severing from cold and wearing torn
clothes. It was his daily routine till all the blankets
exhausted. He never gave any blanket to any
other person even to his servant named "Pathalu"
saying that it was not for him. I have
witnessed many such examples. He lived a very simple life
but in a very disciplined manner. He used
to tell us many good examples from "Gita" not only
explaining the literal meaning but the
actual themes hidden in those examples.
He
helped many poor students who used to come to Motihari staying in our locality
to appear at
the matric examination but fell ill and
could not afford medical treatment. He used to say "if you
cannot do good to others, it does not matter but
never even think of bad for anyone." Although I
am not a good writer but I gave you the very
small part of what I got from him. If I write all, it
will take a shape of a very thick book.
One day a
man who was crying and his eyes were full of tears, came to our house and sat on
the
varanda (front corridore). He told my father that he
was going somewhere by train and his all
belongings were stolen and he had no money to eat or to
perchase ticket to go home. He further
told my father that he went to many people but no one
was ready to help him. Someone told him
to go to Kedar Babu only he may help you. My father
enquired and after getting satisfied he
was given food to eat. Then my father took him to
railway station and perchased a ticket for
his destination. When the train arrived, he asked him
to sit in the train and waited for the
train to start. When the train steamed off and started
running with a little more speed, he
gave him the ticket. Why did he not give him money? You
think.
I am still trying
my best to adopt all good things which I have observed in him but I cannot say
how far I have succeeded. He explained the difference
between "paap" and "punya" which I am
not going to tell you at this moment but if
someone interested can talk to me.
It will continue further.
